Civility PledgeAssociation boards are regularly faced with challenging and complex issues that can spark strong emotions as communities are comprised of people with different ideals, preferences, and values. On September 16th, the Board adopted a Civility Pledge for Willowsford, committing to embracing principles that establish a framework for effective community conversations. This is a pledge for community harmony whether a resident, guest, board or committee member, association manager, staff member, or contractor.

Harry PughHOA Board of Directors, Treasurer
Harry was elected to the Willowsford HOA Board of Directors last year and serves as Treasurer. The role of the Board of Directors is to govern the overall operation of the Association which includes annually adopting a budget, directing maintenance of common areas, and applying documents.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do in Loudoun County? A: Biking and hiking the various trails and roadways in Willowsford with my wife. I ran the NYC Marathon four times. Due to a hip replacement I can no longer run; so, I’ve started using a hybrid bike for the Willowsford trails. These trails run the gamut from easy to very hard for me. I’m hoping to get skillful enough to be able to bike the Bull Run Overlook Trail without putting a foot down.
Q: Where is your hometown? A: I don’t really have a hometown. My father was a Navy pilot and we moved all the time. I was born in Honolulu. By the time I was 18 I had lived in 18 different places and gone to only one school longer than one year. I actually went to both Falls Church and Arlington High School here in Virginia (one year each). After college I served four years in the military including a tour in Vietnam; and, then after business school I joined a multinational company where I traveled all over the world. Two of my children were born in Mexico City, two in Los Angeles and my wife is French. Just prior to moving to Willowsford we lived in Vermont in a very small town for three years. We’ve lived in Willowsford since May 2017 and I’m hoping to make Willowsford my hometown.
Q: How do you prepare for Board Meetings? A: Normally, as I’m biking, hiking and walking all over Willowsford I’m learning through speaking with those I meet as well as observing how things look and work in our community. I read the various Willowsford Facebook pages to see if there are hot topics. I don’t respond to any of those comments for a variety of reasons. I’m always thinking of what we might be able to do better or how to fix something that’s not working right or if there’s something else we might do that residents would enjoy. I communicate these ideas to the other Board members before we meet and they do the same. Our Board members have a variety of backgrounds and so have a variety of ideas as well as viewpoints (I would like to add that complex issues are complex and rarely have simple non-controversial solutions). As Treasurer, each month I also review all of the Financials and meet with our Community Manager to go over any questions or financial topics I want to explore in more detail.
