Construction Notice - LCPS will begin construction of sanitary sewer lines for the new high school in Brambleton, east of Evergreen Mills Road, to the south of Creighton in the next few weeks. The proposed line will run from Evergreen Mills Road to near Founders Drive.  

2017 Deer Management Program - To help manage the overpopulation of deer, Willowsford Conservancy’s deer management program continues in The Greens and Grant.  Archery hunting on Conservancy property will be from Oct. 7-Dec. 31, 2017.  All trails will remain open. Trails will be closed during four brief firearms hunting periods in The Greens on Nov. 14-18; Nov. 28-Dec. 1; Dec. 18-21; and Jan. 16-20.  E-mails, notifications in the Weekly, and trail signs will alert residents before and during firearms hunts.

Smithsonian Deer Impact Survey - The Conservancy continues to work with the Smithsonian to help assess the impact of deer at Willowsford.  Over 3 years, the Smithsonian will conduct deer browse studies and camera surveys in the forests, and a brief spotlighting survey in each village.  Please note: In the second half of October (dates are based on weather), researchers and volunteers will drive Willowsford roads at 5 mph in a Smithsonian vehicle, using spotlights to sight deer between 8 PM – 1 AM on weeknights.  The vehicle will have emergency blinkers on.  No lights will be shined onto houses.  If you would like to have your yard excluded from the deer survey, please e-mail your name and address by Sept. 30 to info@willowsfordconservancy.orgWe appreciate residents’ cooperation and expect to be able to share study results early next year.  Thank you.

Waves Board Elections - The Willowsford Waves are seeking nominations for board positions. If you are interested in running for one of the board positions or would like to submit a nomination, please email Katie Gonzalez, our nomination chair. Nominations need to be submitted no later than October 10th.

Save-the-Date: We will be holding elections at our membership meeting Tuesday, October 24th from 7 to 8 PM at Sycamore House.

Community Standards Inspection Reminder – The following sections in The Grant can expect to see Elexandra over the next few months: 2B1, 2B2, 3A and 3B. Click here to determine what section your street is in. Elexandra will be dressed in Willowsford Gear and/or wearing an ID lanyard. You can expect to see her taking pictures and walking along the property.

Board of Directors Meeting – The Board of Directors meets every other month. The next board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 9th at 1:30 PM at Sycamore House.

NEW! Sculpt It by Abrakadoodle - Wednesdays, October 4th through November 8th from 3:45 to 4:45 PM at The Lodge. The Abrakadoodle art experience engages children with art lessons that will inspire your child's imagination. In our Sculpt It class children will learn to create 3D sculptures using a variety of tools and materials which may include modeling compound, wire, wood, aluminum, plastic, string and paper.  Our program is intended to be an art enrichment class where we'll mold, bend, twist, stretch, and balance all while learning about amazing artists and making 3D creations that are dynamic, creative and fun!  All materials are provided. Jr. Chef Academy: Half Pints - Tuesdays, October 3rd through November 14th (no class 10/31). From 4:30 to 6:30 PM at Sycamore House. "Dough-Re-Mi." Kids will start off right here in the US making biscuits. From there we'll travel to a different county each week, learn about a dough from that culture and how to create delicious sweet and savory dishes with it.  Half Pints is for kids ages 5 to 8. $310/child (price includes a Willowsford apron). View the weekly menu and register here!

Jr. Chef Academy: Foodies - Thursdays, October 5th through November 9th from 5 to 7:30 PM at Sycamore House. "All You Knead is Love…and Bread." Kids will start off with basic yeast dough and build to more complex enriched and laminated dough, including homemade brioche and from-scratch croissants!  Each week the kids will learn the techniques specific to each dough, then how to shape and bake them into delicious sweet and savory treats! Foodies is for kids ages 9 to 12. $340/child (price includes a Willowsford apron). View the weekly menu and register here!

Tuesday Pizza Nights in September: September is pizza month at the Farm Stand! We've invited Pizzeria MOTO into the Farm Garden every Tuesday in September. They'll be baking wood-fired pizzas, starting at 2 PM, until supplies last. Look for MOTO's special Market Pie made with our own veggies.

Community Bonfire & Camp Out Saturday, September 30th. Join the Willowsford Conservancy for our annual community bonfire and camp-over on The Greens meadow at the Grassland Grove Boulevard trailhead. The bonfire, BBQ and potluck begin at 6 PM with live music from 6:30 to 9:30 PM.  Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. We’ll provide hotdogs and sausages, a veggie dish, water and supplies. Anyone camping over will be treated to coffee/hot chocolate in the morning. Tents may be set up starting at 2 p.m. $5/person. Register here!

Rev3 Adventure Enablers: The Trail Mix - Saturday, October 7th from 7 to 11 AM in The Greens. The Trail Mix offers a chance to mix it up on the trails with your choice of a 5K, 10K, or half-marathon. You will experience single track, and double track as you take on these trails in woods and gently rolling open fields. Rev3 Adventure Enablers: Tenderfoot - Sunday, October 8th in The Greens. The race is from 9 AM to 12 PM not including a pre-race brief and post-race food and awards. The Tenderfoot is an event for beginners and families to mountain bike, trek, strategize, navigate, perform challenges, and paddle by following a map with marked checkpoints. Basically, it's an all-terrain scavenger hunt with a handsome reward…great prizes, muddy legs, a sweaty body, and proud smiles like you may not have seen in a while. Rev3 Adventure Enablers: Ghoul GLOW Run - Saturday, October 28th from 5 to 8 PM in The Greens. Join us for a super-fun, costume-friendly Glow Run; 5K or 1-milke fun run!
