Camp Willowsford - Camp Willowsford is back this summer and we’re excited to share that we’re starting a little earlier this year—the week after LCPS lets out. From the Farm, Kitchen, and the new Cedar Pond Pavilion, to our recreation spaces in The Lodge and Sycamore House, and of course, the vast Conservancy open spaces, learning opportunities at Willowsford have no bounds.

Beginning in June, we’re offering a well-rounded selection of camps that will suit your child’s interests and needs. This summer, you’ll find a wide range of camps from Discover, Lost & Found in the Wilds of Willowsford, Pasta and French culinary camps, to LEGO®, art and STEAM! Every day ends with well-deserved pool time (except for Session 1 of ‘Lost & Found in the Wilds of Willowsford’ which starts and ends at the brand new Cedar Pond Pavilion).

Registration is on a per week basis. There are two sessions per week and two age groups. The “Pioneers” are ages 5-8 and the “Explorers” are ages 9-12.

garden plot

Garden Club - Registration is open for prior year plot holders. The registration form can be found on the last page of the Community Garden Guidelines.

  • Plot Sizes and Assignments – Over the past years we have realized that most of the plots are too small to accommodate plant spread and rotation requirements (i.e. Tomatoes should not be planted in the same spot each year due to soil depletion). We are proposing a new layout of 32 plots.
  • Returning gardeners will have first choice to keep prior assigned plots for this season.
  • By May 1st , your plot rental payments must be received by the HOA (you can mail in or drop your checks off at Sycamore House)...otherwise verbally or digitally reserved plots will be made available to the next person on the wait list. Once we have everyone’s initial plot selections, we will send an updated plot rental list out to the group showing available plots.

Snags: How Dead Trees Help Wildlife - Saturday, April 7th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Sycamore House/Grange Trails. Standing dead trees, called snags, are a vital natural resource for many species of wildlife.  Woodpeckers, chickadees, titmouse, screech owls, bluebirds, American kestrels, flying squirrels, bats, raccoons, bears, treefrogs, bees, and many other species use tree cavities for nesting or denning.  These cavities are often created in snags.  Once the snags fall to the ground, they become another valuable resource—downed woody debris.  Come learn about the life of dead trees and the important role they play in the ecosystems here at Willowsford Conservancy.

Presenter:  Kevin Rose, District Wildlife Biologist for Northern Virginia, Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF).

We will begin inside with a presentation about the role of snags in our ecosystem, and will continue with a nature walk to investigate some of these dead trees.  Dress for the weather and bring a flashlight or headlamp.
