International Dark Sky Week (April 15-21)

Created in 2003 by a high school student Jennifer Barlow, International Dark Sky Week draws attention to the widespread environmental impacts of light pollution. IDSW has grown into a worldwide event held annually in April around Astronomy Day. As you may be aware, Willowsford observes many Dark Sky principles to reduce light pollution.

Did you know Bad outdoor lighting wastes 0.5 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy per house, per night? That is enough energy to power a 50-inch TV for 1 hour. Click here to learn more about International Dark Sky Association and what you can do to reduce light pollution.

Spring Reminders from Your Willowsford Life Team

Spring is here; the grass is growing, and flowers are blooming.  We would like to provide some helpful tips and reminders as you begin Spring landscaping. For example, when mulching your lot, there is no need to mulch your street trees because the HOA will do that to maintain a uniform appearance.  Click HERE to learn more about: Lawn Care, Landscaping, Common Area Woods and Meadows, and Wooded Lots.

Willowsford Social Club

The Willowsford Social Club celebrates "A Belated Cinco de Mayo!" on Saturday, May 19th at The Lodge.

On May 5, 1862 the Mexican Army defeated the French army at the Battle of Puebla. In Mexico, this holiday is a relatively  minor one, but in areas of the United States with large Mexican-American populations, it has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican Culture and Heritage.

Please join us at 6 PM in The Lodge, to mingle with friends and neighbors from our wonderful community. Bring your favorite South of the Border dish,  (appetizer, entree or desert) to share, and beverages of choice. Dress is casual or festive as you choose, for this special occasion. This event is adults-only.

Willowsford Cares Club

To help address food insecurity issues facing children and adults during the summer and to inform Club Members on the hunger landscape, the Willowsford Cares Community Service Club will hold the Hunger Awareness Initiative from May 14 – 23, 2018. During this time, Club Members will have an opportunity to participate in food drives, stock shelves at a local food pantry, pack snack bags for the homeless, and gain a new perspective on what it’s like to feed a family on a limited food budget. Sign-ups and additional information can be accessed on the Club’s Facebook page.  Please email Meredith Taylor (k.meredith.taylor@gmail.com) or Ken Taylor (kenneth.h.taylor@gmail.com) if you have any questions or would like to receive the information via email.
